Ekram is a singer with a highly distinctive style who integrates Xinjiang’s ethnic music with world music. Graduating with a degree in music education from a normal university in China, Ekram grew up in the Turpan region and was immersed from an early age in the Uyghur classical music known as the “Twelve Muqam” which forms the soul and foundation of his music.
In his early career, he served as the guitarist for the “Kuzu Band” In 2014, he joined the third season of The Voice of China, the most popular Chinese reality singing competition, where his unique voice and musical taste gained nationwide attention through his adaptation of “My Heart Has Only You, Not Her.” To delve deeper into flamenco music, he traveled alone to southern Spain in 2010 for further study. In 2018, he held a jazz concert titled “Jazz West Region” in Beijing, fully showcasing his diverse musical style. In recent years, he has lived in Shanghai and has been active in the domestic music scene for over two decades, spanning ethnic, jazz, and pop music, including performances at venues such as Shanghai’s JZ Club, BlueNote and Livehouse.
Throughout these years, he has persistently experimented with blending world music forms with Uyghur ethnic music, participating in numerous world music and jazz festivals both domestically and internationally, creating a unique personal style. His artistic practice is dedicated to bringing Uyghur ethnic music to the world, revitalizing traditional music through cross-border modern and international musical language. Ekram believes that “music is an indispensable part of his life, like his own soul.” He carries a dream for music, and his passion for it remains unwavering.
