Diana is currently working on The American Maharani, about a young movie actress whose romance with a handsome, Cambridge-educated maharaja leads her to India, a world of palaces and elephant hunts, jewels and ancient curses. But it is 1947 and that world is dying, along with the Raj itself, as Britain prepares to grant India her independence. As opposition to their marriage grows, Nancy is caught up in a whirlwind of royal intrigue, political conflict, espionage and attempted murder. Even the love of her husband, Bhaiya, may not be enough to save her, especially following the theft of an ancient royal jewel that symbolizes his power and the throne itself.

Based on a true story that rocked Hollywood and shocked India, the novel follows the journey of a young American woman into an ageless land as it collides with the modern era.
